LED Reverse Bulb: Best Reverse Lights for Outdoors
If you're reading this, chances are you've already upgraded the front of your Toyota 4runner, and you're trying to get the rear to match. We have a unique reverse light option for your Toyota 4runner.
Many people are satisfied with two reverse lights, and that's fine, but we've figured out a way, with Diode Dynamics' help, to give you four of the world's brightest reverse lights firing back. Today, I'm going to show you how to install the module that makes these lights work. Then, I will show you what it looks like against a wall compared to the stock reverse lights.
Installing the Reverse Lights
The first step in getting to your taillight is popping open the hatch and reaching through the small access panel. After that, you can take any pry tool or flat screwdriver and remove the little door on the inside.
Then, with a 10-millimeter socket, you can reach in there and remove the two 10-millimeter nuts.
Next, pull it toward you to remove it. Then, disconnect the little factory wire harness.
For the next step, we will take this to the table and show you guys how it works.
So we've got the taillight out on the table now, and our good friends at Diode Dynamics understand the problem we've got. The problem is, we like a ton of reverse light output. So truthfully, while one set of reverse lights is okay if we could have two sets (four total reverse lights), that's even better.
So, for reverse lights, we're going to be using the GTR Lighting 1000 lumen reverse lights. These are the brightest reverse lights on the planet today at the time we wrote this. Two's good, four is always better.
Now, this is the Diode Dynamics "Tail As Turn" module for the 4runner. The cool part is that it's 99% plug-and-play. The only modification you have to do is install this T-Tap on the green wire and connect this black wire to it. Diode Dynamics includes everything you need out of the box.
That's how you get your four reverse lights. Diode's product makes this happen by converting your taillight and brake light in the center, which is already factory LED. Then, they convert that from being only a brake light to being a turn signal, which removes the need for this turn signal.
So what are we going to do with that? We're going to get rid of the turn signal that we had in there, and we're going to put another reverse light up there to see better at night.
In here, we've got the GTR lighting Armor series and amber turn signal. That was a good bulb, but that's for other drivers. We're selfish today. We want the good stuff back here.
Once you plug it in, these just pressure fit into the slot.
This little guy (shown below) is the factory reverse light, which isn't doing anything for us.
Pressure fit it just like the top one and plug it into the factory connector. With all this stuff installed, bring it back to the vehicle, plug it in, and pass your wiring through.
One thing I should mention here: There is a resistor on here. You're going to want to mount this to something metal because they do get a little bit toasty. There's plenty of metal back there to mount it.
Wrap It Up
Let's jump in the vehicle real quick and put this thing in reverse. First, I'm going to make sure all the connections are proper, where they should be, and then I'm going to put these nuts back on and do the other side.
It's pretty easy to tell if they work. However, this will only tell you so much. Any light is bright when you're looking directly at it so, let's turn the lights off, back this up to the garage door, and see how it compares to the stock 4runner reverse lights.
Stock VS. LED Reverse Bulb
As you can see, that Diode Dynamics module has impressive light output. When backing up to that garage door, the lights look unbelievable. You should see it from the driver's seat.
We've got all kinds of fantastic products like that for the Toyota 4runner that I'd love for you to experience. Today, we have on here the KC Hi-Lites Gravity LED Pro6 Light Bar in the grill and the S-V.4 low-beam and high-beam LED headlights.
