ABOUT I-LEDs
Stock turn signals can make the headlights appear outdated and are often a little too dim. A solution to that is to replace your incandescent light bulb with an LED bulb. Many people make the move of upgrading their brake and reverse lights for brighter performance and aesthetic reasons.
We are here to show you that with the Ultra I-LED lights installed, we guarantee you that these are unmistakably bright. Everyone will know that you are turning. From the front to the back, these things are insane. They come in all different bulb sizes that you need for the best fit, as well as colors like amber, white, red, and blue.
The blue version is considered a switchback light that goes between white and amber. If you’re wanting to know more about switchback lights, checkout out the in-depth video where we talk about all its applications and abilities. In short, a switchback applies to the front turn signal’s two modes: a dim amber parking light and a bright flashing turn signal. If your vehicle operates like that at the front, the dim amber parking light will now be a bright white. It simulates a modern-style LED daytime running light. As for the turn signal, it remains amber but is now much brighter.
These lights are plug and play, with the only difference being a need for a turn signal adapter. This goes between the bulb and the line from the car. To install, you unscrew the wiring, then connect the adapter to the bulb by lining up the arrows on the two wires. Make sure to have the arrows line up to avoid a faulty installation.
Once that is done, add the bulb adapter on the backside and line up the arrows, just as you did on the adapter. We strongly recommend buying the adapter and installing without it first. If you have a hyper flash or a bulb out indicator, add the turn signal adapter to remedy this.
Before installing new blubs into your car, you need to know what fits. Here are a few ways you can check this:
- Remove the bulb out of your car and pop the bulb out of the unit. There should be some text on the bulb that tells you the bulb you have. Then use a cross reference guide to find out what LED variant fits.
- If you do not want to do that, you can always go to our website, headlightrevolution.com, and type in the Year/Make/Model of your car and we will show you which of the GTR I-LED lights fit your truck.
INSTALLING HEADLIGHT TURN SIGNALS
The LED connector needs to match that of the OEM bulb, otherwise, it will not work. On the top of the LED bulb, there is a notch. Line up the arrows and connect them. We also recommend using dielectric grease on any external connection bulbs. Despite the O-ring, weathering is still possible. The dielectric grease can go a long way to protect your investment. Check out Morimoto’s selection of dielectric grease for headlight bulb connections and other external LED lighting.
Once that is all said and done, the next part is to identify the mounting configuration of the adapter. The way it works is that the original bulb was held in place with the bulb socket and the socket installs into the housing with mounting tabs. The new bulb does not have any of that, meaning it will not hold in place. This is why it comes with an adapter socket.
Identify where the mounting tabs are on the original socket. Then start building by putting an adapter collar to increase its diameter. Two sets of screws can be used here. The long screws apply to the adapter collar, and the shorter screws thread directly into the bulb to mirror the position of the tabs on the bulb socket. The screws will act as socket tabs to hold the new bulb in place. This might take some trial and error to ensure a proper fit, but that is okay. Typically, three or four screws will be used. Once you have your screws in place, you will go to the backside of your headlight or taillight and install the light.
Before completing the installation, you will need a seal to protect the bulb and casing from the elements. On the original casing, there is a rubber grommet to keep it tight from wiggling and prevent moisture from getting in. GTR Lighting has these foam seals to do just that. Choose the proper fit, and slide over the bulb.
Lastly, connect the new bulb where the old bulb came out. Since the assembly is now outside of the casing, we need to use more of the Morimoto dielectric grease by filling in the gaps where you have the potential for moisture getting in.
INSTALLING TAIL LIGHT SIGNALS
Anytime you are installing rear brake lights, turn signal lights, or reverse lights, a good rule of thumb is to use a bulb that matches the corresponding reflector in the taillight (I.e. red brake reflector = red bulb). Refer to the installation of the taillight for the install on the rear lights. Just keep in mind the color matching process.
With respect to bulb specifications, refer to our website, headlightrevolution.com, and type in the Year/Make/Model of your car and we will show you which of the bulbs you need. You can also reach out to our customer service team; we are always happy to help!
WHICH IS THE BEST SIGNAL BULB
To illustrate how strong the GTR Lighting Ultra I-LED turn signal lights are, we have put together a comparison between the stock amber incandescent light, Xenon Depot XTR VF, VLEDS V6 Triton, and the Ultra I-LED. The stock bulb works but is not the best when it comes to the strength of its glow. With the Xenon Depot XTR VF, you get visually similar to the stock bulb, but a much more desirable color. The VLEDS V6 Triton offers an amber LED color and a brighter glow.
Last, but certainly not least, is the GTR Lighting Ultra I-LED. This monster of a light has a new amber color technology to give you as rich of and bright of color as possible. The I-LED is significantly brighter than the other three options and is stronger, meaning drivers further away know that you are turning.
This applies to your rear lights as well, with richer reds and whites. When considering the switchback often, you will get a nice white daytime running light that can switch to an amber turn signal when turned on. If you want brighter turn signals or options, be sure to check out the GTR Lighting Ultra I-LED.
