Upgrading the 2005–2010 Ferrari F430 with Morimoto XB LED tail lights is one of the most dramatic visual and performance improvements you can make to the rear of the car. Whether you’ve already purchased a set or you’re still considering the upgrade, understanding exactly what’s in the box — and how installation works — makes the process much smoother. In this article, we’ll cover What’s in the Box so you know what to expect when your package arrives.
In this guide, we’ll first take a closer look at the package contents. Then, we’ll walk step-by-step through the installation process so you know exactly what to expect.
Before getting started, please note that this guide is for educational purposes only. Morimoto Lighting and its dealers are not responsible for damage, misuse, or personal injury resulting from installation. If at any point you feel unsure, professional installation is strongly recommended.
What’s Included in the Box?
First, let’s break down what you’ll find inside Morimoto’s F430 XB LED tail light package.
Package Contents:
-
2x Tail Light Assemblies
-
2x US-Spec Adaptor Harnesses
-
2x Euro-Spec Adaptor Harnesses (Sold Separately)
-
2x Magnet Mount Resistors
-
16x Thumb Nuts
Because Ferrari wiring differs between US and Euro vehicles, it’s important to confirm which harness configuration applies to your specific F430 before beginning installation.
Required Tools
Fortunately, installation does not require specialty Ferrari-only tools. However, you will need the following:
-
Ratchet
-
10mm Socket
-
3mm Allen Key
-
4mm Allen Key
Once these tools are ready, you can move forward confidently.
Installation Overview
Although the process may look intimidating at first, the installation is actually straightforward when completed methodically. For best results, work on one side at a time and keep all hardware organized.
Step 1: Remove Rear Cover Panels
To begin, open the engine hood.
Next, remove:
-
Three 4mm Allen bolts located at the top of the rear cover panels
-
Two 3mm Allen bolts securing the bottom of the panels
Because these panels protect the tail light mounting hardware, removing them gives you full access to the rear assemblies.
Step 2: Remove the Cover Panels
Now that the bolts are removed, carefully detach the panels.
On the passenger side, pull the panel away from the body, then lift it upward and out of the vehicle.
On the driver side, however, pull the panel outward and swing it to the side rather than lifting it completely out.
At this point, you’ll have full visibility of the tail light mounting points.
Step 3: Remove the Factory Tail Lights
Starting with one tail light assembly, remove the three 10mm nuts and washers securing it to the body.
Once removed, gently slide the tail light outward.
Although the assembly should move freely, avoid pulling aggressively to prevent damaging the wiring.
Step 4: Disconnect the Factory Connector
With the tail light loose, locate the wiring connector.
Pull the release tab upward, then slide the connector away from the tail light housing.
After disconnecting it, carefully route the connector and wiring through the body opening so that it becomes accessible from inside the engine bay.
Step 5: Repeat for Remaining Tail Lights
After completing the first assembly, repeat the same removal process for the remaining three tail lights.
Working methodically ensures you don’t mix hardware or overlook a connection.
Step 6: Install the Adaptor Harness
Now it’s time to integrate the Morimoto system.
Locate the US-Spec adaptor harness and connect it to the vehicle’s factory harness.
Be sure to match the connectors exactly as shown in the official Morimoto documentation. Incorrect placement may cause functionality issues.
Repeat this step on the opposite side of the vehicle.
If you own a Euro-spec F430, follow the Euro harness instructions provided separately.
Step 7: Install the Morimoto XB Tail Lights
With the harnesses in place, take one Morimoto tail light and carefully slide it into position.
Then secure the assembly using four of the included thumb nuts.
Important: hand-tighten only. Over-tightening can stress the housing or mounting points.
Continue this process for the remaining three tail lights.
Step 8: Connect Resistors and Wiring
Next, plug the tail light connector into the adaptor harness.
Then attach the included resistor to the adaptor harness as instructed.
Because Ferrari systems monitor load resistance, these magnet-mount resistors prevent error messages and hyper-flashing.
Step 9: Secure the Resistor Safely
Now, attach the magnetic resistor bracket to a solid metal bracket inside the engine bay.
However, ensure that:
-
The resistor does not touch plastic
-
It does not rest against rubber
-
It remains clear of flammable materials
Resistors generate heat, so proper placement is critical for safety.
Step 10: Test All Lighting Functions
Before reassembling the vehicle, turn it on and test every function:
-
Running lights
-
Brake lights
-
Turn signals
-
Reverse lights
-
Hazard lights
Testing beforehand prevents unnecessary reassembly if adjustments are needed.
Step 11: Reassemble the Rear Panels
Once everything functions properly, reinstall the rear cover panels using the original hardware.
At this stage, double-check alignment and panel fitment before fully tightening all bolts.
Why This Upgrade Is Worth It
Although installation takes some time, the visual transformation is dramatic.
Morimoto XB LED tail lights offer:
-
Modern LED light blade design
-
Improved brightness and visibility
-
Instant on/off response
-
Sharper light signature
-
A more exotic, contemporary appearance
Furthermore, LED technology provides better reliability compared to aging incandescent systems.
For F430 owners who want modern lighting without sacrificing Ferrari heritage, this upgrade strikes a perfect balance.
